I'm Chris.

I feel most at home in my workshop experimenting with wood.
Planing, bending, gluing… the possibilities are endless.
My work is playful, yet finished down to the smallest detail. I like to listen to what the wood has to tell me.

I think with my hands while designing, which is why I prefer to keep space for freedom in the process.
I start from an idea, and only then move towards a design. In doing so, I work with the natural and physical properties of wood.
Some people become mesmerised by the material itself, while I prefer to enter into a dialogue with it.

 

During my studie at the Hout- en Meubileringscollege (HMC), I designed the springy wooden Sahara stool in my second year. I then spent nearly eight years refining and perfecting it.
In 2024, I created a 2.0 version of a balancing stool I first made over fifteen years ago.

 

I make all my pieces by hand, largely to measure.
